Kim, Schubert Win 2014 Lead World Cup In Haiyang

The 2014 Lead World Cup circuit got underway this past weekend in Haiyang, China, and it was Austria’s Jakob Schubert winning for the men and defending overall champ Jain Kim of South Korea winning for the women.

For the women it was Jain Kim resuming her top form from the 2013 season with a convincing victory.  Can anyone slow her down this season??

For the men it was Jakob Schubert winning the gold which is all the more impressive when you recall that we last heard from Schubert this past February when he was blowing up his finger while in the process of flashing Nagual (V13).  Even though he is apparently not yet back to 100%, he had enough to edge out a victory over a very well-rounded Sean Mcoll who also finished in 2nd in the bouldering event.  This event marked the return of Adam Ondra to the Lead World Cup Circuit, but he would finish in a disappointing 9th place, one place out of Finals.  Magnus Midtboe, who is also one of the best climbers in the world, was also just out of the Final in 10th place.

The Lead World Cup circuit continues in a few weeks in Chamonix, FRA
