2014 IFSC Bouldering World Cup – Vail Live

The 2014 IFSC Bouldering World Cup resumes this weekend with its annual stop in Vail, CO at the GoPro Mountain Games.

Winners of the Toronto stop Akiyo Noguchi and Guillaume Glairon Mondet will be joined by field of 28 Americans and the usual stacked international lineup that includes last year’s winners Anna Stöhr and Dmitrii Sharafutdinov.  Routsetting duties for the weekend will be headed up by Martin Hammerer, Matthias Woitzuck and Chris Danielson.

Last year saw the American team put three climbers in finals in Paul Robinson, Alex Puccio and Angie Payne, but whether or not they can match or better that result this year remains to be seen.  Puccio has had an uneven year on the circuit and Americans have not had much luck at the other stops either.  Vail always tends to be the best event for the American squad however, so this is certainly the best chance for multiple Americans to reach finals.  Here’s the full American roster:

Just re-watching this comp….Jimmy is always fun to watch, was bummed to see him out. I looked and saw he finished 21st at nationals, which people are saying isn’t high enough to qualify for team, but there was a 21st place female finisher who made it, so how do they decide who goes? lottery?

no, it doesn’t cost any money to attend. most of the spectator events are free. there’s no seating for watching the climbing. you just stand and watch, so no tickets are needed.

Wish they would put up some bleachers, even if it added an entrance fee. The view in the past has been poor at best.

Jimmy did pretty poorly at ABS so he didn’t qualify for the team.

And I’ve heard Jeremy Hardin is the chief routesetter. I know Chris Danielson handled Toronto; are you sure he’s doing Vail as well?

Chris was listed on the IFSC website, but they also don’t list most of the setting team so it’s possible Hardin is involved as well.
