Outpouring Of Support For Tito Traversa

Outpouring Of Support For Tito Traversa

The climbing community is still coming to terms with the tragic accident that took the young life of Tito Traversa last week.  Speculation as to what may have happened is just that at this point, so until we have more details I thought I’d share some of the outpouring of emotion and support from some of the more well-known climbers on social media in the past few days.  Obviously nothing can undo the events that led to the unspeakable loss for Traversa’s family and friends, but it is perhaps some small consolation to see how he impacted many in the community in his 12 years of life.  If there are any others I can add to the list please leave a link in the comments.

Chris Sharma:

It breaks my heart to hear the tragic news about Tito Traversa. The climbing community has lost a great person and amazing climber. Sending my love and prayers to his family.

Mirko Caballero:

Tito Traversa, I never met you, but I feel I knew you so well. You were such an amazing climber, and I followed your progress and watched all your videos. When I heard you sent your first 8b+, it motivated me to get better on ropes. Every time I travelled in Europe, I was hoping I would run into you at a crag. Sadly that will never happen now, and I will miss reading about your latest hard sends… Rest in Peace Tito, I know you’ll keep climbing hard wherever you now are…

Ashima Shiraishi:

Since when I was 9 years old I have always been so impressed with how you climbed, you were like a monkey! Whenever I was sad I would watch your climbing videos to motivate me.You will always be in the hearts and minds of climbers all over the world. Thank you for being such an inspiring climber. RIP Tito Traversa.

Sasha DiGiulian:

My heart goes out to Tito and his family. RIP to one of climbing’s greatest prodigies.

Nalle Hukkataival:

Very sad to hear about Tito Traversa. Rest in peace Tito. All my thoughts go out to his family.

Emily Harrington:

Lastly, I wanted to extend my heartfelt condolences to Tito Traversa’s family, friends, and all those affected by his passing. The climbing community lost a bright young star and it has been a shock to everyone. I watched him climb in Siurana, Spain just over a month ago and I was in awe of his grace and style. Rest In Peace Tito – your strength and passion inspired many and you will be greatly missed but always remembered!

My name is Taltos Smith. My nickname is Tito. I started climbing last year. I live in Brazil and climb my first 7a last year, 6 months after I started. I understand how great Tito was.

I was really sad to read this. I will never have the chance to climb with him. That makes me really sad. I hope his Mom and Dad will be OK.
