While the Battle in the Bubble grabbed the attention of most comp climbing fans Saturday night America’s Alex Johnson was in Greifensee, Switzerland celebrating a victory in the first bouldering World Cup event of the 2010 season. Johnson eked out a victory over a strong women’s field with Akiyo Noguchi finishing 2nd and Chloé Graftiaux coming in 3rd.
With this victory, Johnson now has two 1st place finishes and a 2nd place finish in her 3 World Cup bouldering appearances. You can read a bit more about Johnson’s efforts at the comp and see a few pictures in this article at DPM.
On the men’s side, Kilian Fischhuber and Adam Ondra tied during finals with Fischhuber winning based on a stronger score in the semi-finals. Christian Core came in 3rd and American Zach Lerner finished 49th (out of 81 competitors).

Nice to see some Americans crushing euro-side. Is Alex going to start a trend for young Americans climbing in more world cup comps? Specifically are we going to see more men? I suppose the US men tend to focus more outside instead of on comps.
