In top form after the 3rd ascent of Terrmer (V15) Daniel Woods took his game to the next level Wednesday with the first ascent of the much hyped super project in Boulder Canyon. Dubbed The Game, Woods suggested the lofty grade of V16 for this new problem.
Discussing the problem on the Big Up blog, Woods indicates that sending The Game took him at least 17 days of work in the past 2 years and that compared to other V15s he’s done The Game is “definitely another level”. Woods had this to say about the problem on Cedar Wright’s blog:
I called this problem The Game, because for me the climb was a game I had to play, I had to click into game mode, and really train myself for these moves. I had to grow mentally strong and also physically strong to be able to put it together. I call it the game, because I played the game and I ended up winning the game so game over.
Wright, who is collaborating with the guys at Big Up, was on hand to capture the send on film. A teaser should be up early next week on The North Face’s blog with the full send debuting at the 2010 Reel Rock Tour later this year. Until then, here is a video Chad Greedy put together a few weeks back that shows Woods working the problem:
With The Game out of the way, Woods can now turn his attention to this weekend’s ABS Nationals competition in Alexandria, VA where he looks to defend the title he won in convincing fashion last year. Can the routesetters set something hard enough for him this year??
In related Daniel Woods news, here is an excellent promo piece Joe Kinder put together for La Sportiva in which Woods explains why the La Sportiva Solutions are his favorite shoe. If I hadn’t sold my soul to Five Ten in a secret ceremony several years ago I might actually consider getting a pair…
