I admire folks who do as he did, and just bugger off, leave everything behind, and live. When I think of doing the same(Daily), all I can think is “How’m I gonna put gas in my truck to get to the crag!?”
Not saying this is the case with this guy in particular, but in my experience the perma-road tripping crowd consists of a high percentage of trustfunders and people from wealthy families. They just need to get by in life, working a bit here and there and not worry about retirement etc., because they know there’s a soft landing waiting for them when they get older.
I traveled for over a year from working very hard and saving. I was working seasonally so I wasn’t tied to a job or a particular location. During my road trip, I house sat and even worked 12 weeks to make it last. Best time of my life, no trust fund involved. In the end the road trip ended up more like being homeless living in my van, but that’s a different part of that story.
