V12 For Alex Johnson

Alex Johnson has had a very productive month of August since she moved to Colorado.  Yesterday she made the first female ascent of Clear Blue Skies (V12) at Mt. Evans.  I think I mentioned this to someone in the Park last week, but wanted to state it here for the record:  I think Alex will be the first female to climb a V13 in CO in short order.

New Andy Mann Photo Blogsite

Andy Mann is back from South Africa and he is revamping how he shares his work with us, this time with a new blog.  The old dropkneeclimbing blog is now obsolete, and it has been replaced with an eerily similar mannphoto blog.  There is also his Climbing.com problog that was recently updated for your enjoyment as well.  Check it out both out for updates from South Africa and the rest of the world.

Torrent Falls Re-Opened To Public Climbers

Been itching to send one of those classic 5.11 or 5.12s at the Red River Gorge’s Torrent Falls Crag?  Bummed that is has been closed to the public for the better part of 1+ year?  Well, those days are over.  Sort of.  Torrent Falls has been re-opened to public climbing, however the re-opening comes with new rules in place to help limit problems that led to its closure in the first place.  Climbing will only be allowed on Thursday, Friday or Saturday, and you must register day-of.  Visit the new Torrent Falls website for more information.

If you haven’t already seen it, Jamie Emerson has an excellent recap of what he calls “The Golden Age Of Colorado Bouldering”.  It is a must read if you are at all interested in the recent history of hard bouldering in Colorado’s Frontrange.
