The World Cup wasn’t the only comp taking place last weekend as a small field comprised of a few of America’s strongest boulderers turned out for the Blue Ridge Mountain Sports Boulder Bash at the Dominion Riverrock Sports Festival in Richmond, VA.
While billed as a bouldering comp the event was, as noted by Paul Robinson, more of a route climbing endeavor as the problems climbed long sequences out a crazy-looking “bouldering cage” consisting of a big horizontal roof filled with a series of large volumes. This video of Women’s winner Sasha DiGiulian should give you a good sense of the style:

DPM was at the event and they have a write up with more pictures (like the one above right) that you can read by clicking here. A highlight reel from the comp can be viewed here.
So i’ve been seeing different results for this competition, such as Zach winning, then D Woods, with Ryan at third. Here’s the video I saw these at. Just showing the discrepancies from source to source. Thanks for giving us these awesome climbing write ups!

I really like that when you are victorious on this set-up you get to top out, and look good. way better than an awkward pumped out down climb and/or knee wrenching drop.
