very cool! i always wondered what this list would look like. 150 known climbers at the 14d level–i wonder what percentage of the climbing population that is?

Its pretty remarkable that Adam Ondra has climbed so many more 9a’s than Andrada, Sharma, and others considering how long he’s been climbing at that level compared to how long the others have been.

Agreed. Andrada, Sharma, et al have been climbing at that level for probably 3x as long as Ondra has and Ondra has double and triple the ticklist. Most definitely a WORLD RECORD.

Ondra’s brave and humble too. It should be noted.

The Les Voies section is really amazing too. Cool to see the trends among various climbs vs climbers!

I actually don’t find it THAT remarkable. It’s an amazing feat, don’t get me wrong… but the likes of Chris Sharma and Dani Andrada spend most of their time discovering, bolting and opening NEW routes; always looking to push new limits. Adam on the the other hand, is repeating all the difficult lines put up by these visionaries. I’m not trying to take anything away from him because he’s one hell of a climber, but I’m sure if Dani and Chris spent as much time as Adam did repeating rather than opening routes they would have a lot more notches in their belt.

Sid, I completely agree with you. I think that it would be quite interesting if the list of climbs showed who had the first ascent as well. Nice list though!

    Excellent point Sid.

Macca, I believe that if you click through on a specific climber it will list if they had the FA of any of the routes. That said, it would be ideal if this information were presented in a way that allowed for more advanced sorting and searching.

Laughed at Dave Macleod? He doesn’t exactly spend most of his time sport climbing…

His name is spelled incorrectly. Dave Mc ‘LOAD’.

      I think it’s pretty funny.

I wonder how many other 5.14d climbers are out there though. Folks who are not sponsored and don’t spray/log their successes on 8a, etc (not that there is anything wrong with that). I would bet there are more than a few who just climb, and then go home and quietly celebrate. ce

Sid, great point about Ondra vs. Sharma and Andrada. On top of your point, It would be interesting to see how well Ondra would do on Sharma’s routes like Es Pontas and Jumbo Love. I couldn’t imagine Ondra sending those routes anytime soon. Kid needs to bulk up for routes like that.

also, im not 100% sure about ondra, but sharma spent a lot of time when he was younger bouldering and ondra really hasnt? I dont really know if ondra could send a lot of harder boulder problems?

In the brief time he has bouldered, Ondra has made fast ascents of several hard boulder problems. Dreamtime perhaps the most notable. Keep in mind that he is also in school right now and isn’t free to climb every day of the year. Should be interesting to see what happens once he is able to dedicate more time to climbing outside.
