Issue 3 Of Deadpoint Magazine Now Available

Issue 3 Of Deadpoint Magazine Now Available

Issue 3 of Deadpoint Magazine is now available at the Deadpoint Mag site. Here are a few highlights from issue 3:

  • Video of Joe Kinder sending Souther Comfort Right (5.14b) at Little River Canyon, AL
  • An interview with twins Itai and Eden Axelrad
  • A timely profile of Julian Bautista, who just took 5th place at the Adult ABS Nationals comp despite having food poisoning
  • Interesting thoughts from Jason Kehl on the process one goes through when doing the FA of a highball boulder problem
  • A jealousy inducing story about the untapped hard route potential in Catalunya, Spain

Head to the Deadpoint Mag site to check out what else is featured.

After 3 issues, my question about Deadpoint Magazine is this: where is the offline presence??  I thought that the entire basis of the free distribution model was getting the magazine in front of as many eyeballs as possible through a combination of online and print media.

Thus far the print media has been noticeably lacking.  For example, this weekend’s ABS Nationals comp brought hundreds, if not thousands, of people to Boulder, CO for a climbing event and I don’t recall seeing a copy of DPM at any of the 3 area gyms.

Beyond the first issue being at our ABS comp last fall, I haven’t seen the magazine anywhere else.  Are you seeing the print version of DPM in your area??

Update:  Apparently I need to get out more often because plenty of people have been seeing DPM at their local gyms.  Here is what DPM’s Matt Stark had to say in the comments:

Gyms have been reporting that all issues of DPM is gone within days of its arrival. We doubled our print distribution for that reason. If your gym or shop doesn’t get DPM, or they are running out of DPM before you get a copy, let us know.

We will be happy to add them to the list of distributors.

We have them out here in California (Vertical Hold). In fact I had the 3rd issue last week (Thursday)?!? I have gotten all 3 issues thus far from my gym for free and in a timely manner.

Yeah I agree with the whole distribution thing. Events like that are a great place to get the rag out and will look good for any potential future investors/ad buyers. I have only seen it in ONE local gym and only once. I haven’t seen it since that one day.

Maybe they just don’t think there is anyone that cares about climbing in WI??? It is WI after all.

There is a ton of magazines in my gym in Olympia, WA. I read this edition a few days ago and had to wait til today for them to update their site so I could finish off the articles.

I’m pretty sure we got an order in here and they flew out the door. I can’t wait for the next issue, seems like a good mag!
