Chuck Fryberger has a new bouldering film coming out. His latest work is called Pure, and frankly it looks like it could be pretty cool. It features climbers American audiences don’t get to see a lot of like Nalle Hukkataival, Fred Nicole and Kilian Fischhuber along with rising American star Kevin Jorgeson. Despite some earlier bad blood inducing posts, I’m more than ready to give it a fair shake.
Below is the trailer for Pure that I nabbed off of the official Pure website. You can download a much higher quality version there as well as a version formatted for your iPod. The footage looks really cool, although I really hope that the voice over in the trailer is not part of the movie!
Pure premieres February 20th at the Boulder Theatre in Boulder, CO.
omg that voice…
a climbing video that is harder, better, faster, stronger, or so I hope!

I feel like Chuck’s visual style is so far ahead of anything else out there. I’m not sure what kind of camera he is using, but it always looks incredible.
That voiceover was the worst though.

Agreed, it is indeed very visually appealing. I don’t know anything about filming or cameras, but apparently he filmed the movie in some sort of super cool format. Seems to have done the trick.

am I the only one who enjoys being spoken to by a robot?

It looks like its going to be one of the best climbin videos out there. Momento and dosage 5 might get a break from my dvd player now! but that voice ruins it! I cant help but think of steven hawking on family guy the whole time i was watching it.

How much did it cost to hire Stephen Hawking for that voice over?

In film you often see influences from other producers, directors, etc. If you check out the Dosage V trailer you will find a much sexier robotic voice. Coincidence? Is the voice of Pure supposed to be more powerful/forceful?

So far I am 0 for 2 in liking either of the voice overs, but the one in Dosage V was a bit more palatable.

I always get Fryberger and Mortimer confused. One of them likes to use some funky voice-over that seems straight out of a 1960s public school health class movie on personal hygiene. Really bugs me and I always mute it. Maybe it’s not their fault. Maybe it’s just a bad flashback…

That would be Chuck

Mortimer and Fryberger confused? One makes epic films on the cutting edge of the sport. The other copies the Dosage graphics and the robot voice!

copies which dosage graphics?

Despite my serious dislike of Mr. Roboto from the trailer I expect this film will be quite good. Chuck has turned out some great climbing flicks in the last many years and the above comments, mine included may be a bit harsh. More over I have enjoyed watching the evolution of his style; from the uninteresting fixed shots of many years previous to the HD action shots in Pure.

I actually kind of like the dosage robotic girl voice 😀
