Last week Monday, a climbing talk radio show premiered on KGNU in Boulder, CO.
Wait. What? Talk radio? Climbing??? Yes, you read that right.
The hour long show featured FRB’s Mike Brooks and another host interacting with guests Malcolm Smith, Heidi Wirtz and Christian Griffith in studio. Calling in on the hotline were climbing legends Pat Ament and John Sherman.
Taking into account that this was their first time putting on a radio show, the show itself was pretty good. Some highlights were Christian’s thoughts on “reinforcing” holds at Flagstaff Mountain and John Sherman’s recounting of how land managers view climbers on the same level as nuclear testers (or something like that).
There is plenty of room for improvement in future shows, but it is unclear whether or not there will actually be any shows in the future.

The best part are the Eric Horst segments (sorry – don’t know how to make umlauts in a comment) … once I got his real voice in my head, now whenever I pick up an Eric Horst book or article I can hear his voice as I read… it cracks me up!

Speaking of PodClimber.com, the best is when I hear LarryB talking on his Coffee Talk. I love that he talks just like my regular climbing buddies, having a beer, shooting the sh*t about climbing. Love that I can just be myself and listen to the show. It’s definitely a down-to-earth show that you don’t have to be an expert to relate to. I’m a friend on their MySpace, and it looks like the new Coffee Talk will be up tonight. I think y’all should check it out, too.
