The 2008 Climbingnarc.com Tournament Of All Things Climbing

Ruined NCAA Tournament bracket have you feeling down?? Perhaps your ego is bruised after another crushing defeat for Duke in the early rounds. Inspired by the NCAA Tournament bracket, I am excited to announce the first of its kind “2008 Climbingnarc.com Tournament Of All Things Climbing”.

What is it?

Download you bracket here!

This tournament bracket works just like your average NCAA bracket except that instead of college basketball schools, it consists of 64 climbing related topics broken down into 4 different “regions”.

The “Regions”

Peeps

The Peeps region offers matchups like Sharma vs. Woods, Rands vs. Rodden and Potter vs. Honnold where you get to vote for your favorite climber that has been making news recently.

Schwag

In the Schwag region, you can vote for which company’s gear you like the best. Five Ten or La Sportiva, Prana or Patagonia, Aliens or Cams. We report, You decide?
Dope Spots

Help decide which of 16 Dope Spot climbing destinations is your favorite. Answer age old questions like Hueco or Joes, the Red or the New, and LRC or HP40.

Winter in Wisconsin

So named because how else do you survive winter in Wisconsin as a climber without tons of climbing media to keep you psyched? Among other things, decide which online sites you like the best and which climbing magazine is your favorite.

How does it work?

You will have one week to download your bracket, get it filled out and submit it. Starting the following week, you will be able to vote on the various matchups in the 4 “regions”. In subsequent weeks, voting will continue on the new matchups until we have a winner. The 4 “regions” do not always have subjects that are directly comparable so it will be up to you to decide which is better based on whatever criteria you want to use. Just have fun with it and we should be ok.

To fill out your bracket, simply open it in Adobe Reader and fill in the blank lines. To do this, you can click your mouse onto a blank line whereby you will be able to type in your choice. If you need help, you should also see an option to highlight the fields which will highlight the locations to type in your answers. Once you have the bracket filled out, save it and send it to me via email at climbingnarc _at_ gmail.com.

What’s in it for you?

Giving you something to help pass your day at work isn’t enough? Ok. As an added incentive there will be two prizes as part of this tournament: a copy of the new Dr. Topo DVD as well as a copy of the Momentum Video Magazine Volume 2 DVD. One DVD will be awarded at random from a pool of everyone that sent in a bracket. The other will be awarded to the person with the most accurate bracket at the end of the tournament. I will have more details on these prizes in the coming days.

When does the tournament start?

You will have all this week to fill out your brackets and send them to me via email at climbingnarc _at_ gmail.com. Voting will begin next Monday, March 31. Please feel free to ask any questions you have in the comments below. Good luck!

That’s actually a really good idea, I hadn’t thought of that.  Maybe if this one works out well we can setup an NIT bracket.

Crumblewood vs. some dynamite blasted roadside choss-cliff!!!

His spraysheet does seem a bit odd. You would think if some guy was running around bishop sending projects and downgrading V14s somebody would have heard about him before.

Good luck on it, hopefully the weather will cooperate!

In most office pools one fills out the whole thing before the games are decided. I get the impression above that we should vote for the winners in subsequent weeks, is that accurate? If you get that NIT bracket going I’ve got some suggestions 🙂

Yes, fill out the whole bracket ahead of time.  After everyone has their brackets filled out then voting will commence to decide the winner.

I’m not sure that we can even consider your candidacy if YOU DON”T HAVE YOUR BRACKET TURNED IN!?!

Plus, I’m saving sock hands for a 1 seed in my women’s bracket 🙂

Hey, great bracket set up. One problem, I think that we should have a Nate Derus VS. Tony Brengosz match under the peeps category next time. haha
