Old School and I made our respective returns from surgery to the sharp end at Devil’s Lake yesterday.

I decided to leave my camera behind so my words will have to suffice.
Anticipating hot and humid conditions we made sure to get to the West Bluff early and finished up our light day of climbing by 1 pm.

Highlights of the day included climbing Cleopatra’s Needle for the first time as well as 2 fun climbs on the Queen’s Throne formation (Observe stolen MP photo at left for an idea of what the Needle is like). The climbing is really, really easy, but sitting on top of the Needle is quite an experience. For added excitement start rocking back and forth on the top and feel the entire top of the Needle move underneath you.
Back at the parking lot, it was quite the sight to take in the current condition of the roads by the West Bluff. The tumbled rocks road that leads to the only permanent residences on the lake itself is even more underwater than back in April, and the road leading to the South Shore area is impassable (unless you are a motorcycle driver apparently).
