Fall is in full swing here in Wisconsin, and I wanted to share a couple of items I hope will motivate people to get out and do some climbing (wherever you happen to be reading this).
First up is a Devil’s Lake West Bluff bouldering mini guide. Notoriously hard to navigate, the talus beneath the West Bluff at Devil’s lake holds the highest concentration of hard, good problems at the Lake. With that in mind, I put together a small Dr. Topo-style guide that should help you find your way around. Download a copy by clicking here. Please pass along any feedback you have to help improve the guide.
And to get you motivated to check out the bouldering on the West Bluff, here is a video of a new problem I alluded to last week. Dubbed Moj by Steve, this problem is a lot more physical than your average Devil’s Lake boulder. Check it out:
Highs in the mid 40s this weekend in Wisconsin! There’s no excuse for not getting out!
Nice work, Steve! Looks like a very cool and unique DL problem.

wow man! great job with the mini topo. That has certainly come a long way from when we had spoke about doing a Dodge one a year ago. Really good job bro.

Without even seeing the topo yet, on principle I want to thank you. There are a bunch of UW Hoofers wanting to go bouldering at the lake, so this is a godsend no matter how good or bad it is, because its a good start. I’ve checked out Mountain Project too, but the more help the better

Mountainproject is a great resource, but I find that it is difficult to conceptualize where things are based on how stuff is organized there. Hopefully this will be a starting point in getting people familiar with bouldering at the lake.

Would’ve been a poor choice today…

Looks like a cool problem. Those are the best, the hidden ones that are sort of stumbled upon. Good job, guys.

Nice Video Narc, and again, good send Steve! When I found the problem and looked at the moves, Steve was the first climber that came to mind. I thought it looked like his style. Glad he was the one to eventually send.

Ooh! Knee Bar!

Toooo Coooooool! Traipsed across this site during my random electronic wanderings. It warms my heart,.. to see the activity on the short stones back in Wisco. The dense and articulate quality of the Lake quartzite,.. is a joy to move upon. Keep up the great sends!
Happy trails, Eric Z

Hey Eric, we all have you to thank. Your exploration of the boulders in the park has inspired all of us to search out new and great lines, as well as repeat your amazing test pieces. The Lake has so much quality stone that it is hard to leave all those pebbles unturned. Check out the web site mountianproject.com and you can see all the new problems going up. Also if you have any historic info to add that would be appreciated.
Cheers and much thanks,
Remo

I’m getting a 404 error when I try to download the guidebook. Is it still available somewhere?

You should be able to get it here as well:
