Some People Are Fast Healers…

Here I am sitting on the couch 2+ weeks after surgery on my ankle after a frustratingly uneventful sport climbing injury that occurred almost two months ago, and Pamela Shanti Pack is out in Vedauwoo crushing the FA of a heinous offwidth just days after multiple surgeries because of a bad fall off said heinous offwidths.  Don’t I feel like a slacker…

Based on my history, I’m guessing I should steer clear of even looking at anything that resembles an offwidth, but if you’re into that sort of thing there is more visual goodness from Vedauwoo here.

Work on other things like core which should not involve ankle unless you do inversion crunches.

Pain killers weaken your body, really? Someone has to call BS on this one. I suppose that I agree with the stay off sugar advice, only because you might put on a few pounds while recovering, but the rest of this advice is hippy talk. But what do I know.

Well, there is an emerging consensus among sports physios that NSAIDS used during the initial inflammatory period of a fresh injury do more harm than good — those initial inflammatory processes are an important part of healing (you can do a Google Scholar search for references). I don’t know if that’s what “stay off sugar” has in mind, though.

Of course, there is also an emerging consensus that an early return to activity (i.e. aggressive rehab) is important for preventing scar tissue build-up. So I don’t know what his “rule of thumb” is all about.
