UBC Pro Tour Heading To The Northwest

UBC Pro Tour Heading To The Northwest

The UBC Pro Tour has added stop at Stone Gardens Bellevue to their 2012 calendar with a $17,000 cash purse set to lure bouldering’s elite to Seattle September 21-22nd.  This is the first UBC comp to take place in a climbing gym in quite some time, so it will be interesting to see how that environment differs from the bigger venues they’ve been operating the past couple of years.

The inevitable question many of you may want an answer to is whether or not there will be a live feed.

I wish I could confirm that there would be, but the answer to that question remains to be seen.

There wasn’t enough support in the industry to get a feed running at ABS Nationals, but there is still plenty of time for things to get sorted out for this comp.  Let’s hope it happens.

“Climbing gyms represent the future of the sport and are the proving ground where future stars of the sport are born.”
-Ha! Gotta love how the cutting edge in climbing went from mountians (the 30s), big walls (the 70s), Sport Climbs (the 90s), Bouldering (today), and now, gym climbing (the future). Whats next?

I think that’s a misinterpretation of the quote. Gyms aren’t necessarily cutting edge or “the future”, but they are inarguably the most common way for people to get into climbing these days. Hence future climbers that will be on the cutting edge in areas you mention will more than likely get their start in gyms.

Yeah, I get what he is trying to say, its just a ridiculous sentence that is too easy to make fun of. I mean… he literally says “climbing gyms are the future of the sport and represent the proving ground…”

Narc, you have to come out here for the event and do a live feed if it all gets up and running. This is my home gym and the walls are pretty great. Weather permitting, I can show you the local outside bouldering spots as well!
