That’s the number of routes 5.11d or harder that Adam Ondra has logged on his 8a scorecard as of 4/26/2012.  That total includes a staggering 358 routes 5.14a or harder with 70 of those coming onsight.  As a point of comparison, Dave Graham has 190 5.

14a or harder routes registered on his scorecard and he’s not exactly a slouch.  All this of course before Ondra has even finished High School.

It’s likely that he has actually climbed a lot more that, since he stopped logging ascents of routes easier than 8a back in 2003.

His 963 routes 8a or harder is a much more impressive statistic.

So sending a 5.13a isn’t even worth recording then? Holy hell.

This is truly an astounding statistic! Bravo for Adam! Also for Dave!

I think this statistic also highlights another important fact: Adam has spent almost all his time repeating routes that others have established. As a comparison, Dave spends a lot of time doing first ascents. Not so many routes as boulder problems, but this is an important thing to note. Bolting, cleaning, figuring out the beta, ticking holds, wondering if it will go or not…. these are all things that Adam hasn’t had to do very often. It will be exciting when he does finally spy some really hard lines and begins to establish some new hard routes of his own.

Kenny – Adam is what, 18 years old? To the best of my knowledge, Dave was not bolting routes or cleaning up undiscovered boulder problems at that age. Maybe you can compare the two better in 10 years from now – until then just sit back enjoy.

I couldn’t agree more. I didn’t mean for the post to sound negative at all.

I vaguely remember seeing a video where he said he wanted to repeat as many established routes as he could before he really started bolting in earnest. I believe he said this was so he had a context within which to view/grade his own routes. I think that is a great idea. I am curious to see what Adam does when he finally does start bolting his own lines. Despite his pterodactyl shrieks, I have a good amount of respect for him.
