Esperanza (V14) Repeated By Nalle Hukkataival

Nalle Hukkataival has repeated Fred Nicole’s Esperanza (V14) in Hueco Tanks, making him at least the 16th person to do so. Commenting about the problem on his 27crags ticklist he says that Esperanaza “must be the most classic contrived drop-off in the word [sic].” Watch him climb up and then drop-off in the video here.

now that V16 exists in three places (props to Paul climbing 2 of the 3, which i find it hard to understand that this isn’t widely recognized), as ill as it is, V14 is hardly news, unfortunately.  nice sends fellas.

AFAIK Paul hasn’t done any V16s. He downgraded Lucid Dreaming and Story of 2 Worlds is V15, no?

AO thinks TSOW is a 16 according to one thing i read in the past 24 hours.  Paul was coerced into the downgrade, but i bet time will tell… Still waiting for that elusive Matt Birch repeat.  Wasn’t he and many others agonizingly close to doing it when Paul sent.  Nearly 2 years later, 1000’s of tries by everyone who climbed V13 or harder in Bishop, still no repeat.

So you consider TSOTW V16 because of the opinion of a climber that has not sent it, and you consider LD V16 in SPITE of the opinions of climbers that have not sent?

All ascentionists have called SOTW and Lucid V15 (as of right now). As far as we are concerned, they are V15. I’m even not so sure why people are so quick to declare Gioia V16, when half the ascentionists graded it V15 . . . if that happened in a different order, or perhaps with a different climber, people would call it V15 and scream grade inflation.

I hope Woods gets back there soon to try for a send and offer his opinion on the grade.

V!4 is very well still news, especially when one is done so quickly.  Don’t be disillusioned, there are still VERY few people (50ish worldwide is my guess) that climb V14.

There’s probably 4 times that amount.
