Alex Honnold has been getting a lot of attention lately, likely related to that TV show you might have seen him on. This recent interview he did with Trails Edge has several interesting nuggets including this one about what his life is like most days:
All I do is live my normal life and do my normal thing. I go out everyday and go climbing. People see a very cherry-picked thing, they don’t see the tons of days I go out there and totally suck.

I hardly ever do anything badass. It’s just that when I do, it all happens on film. That’s the thing about climbing: at any level you’re always pushing yourself.

So everybody, no matter how good they are, always feels like they suck because they’re always on some harder and harder project.
And that’s what I love about climbing: Everybody sucks on their own level. I can’t remember who said that, but they’re so right.

I was recently diagnosed with bi-polar disorder and i think it’s likely he has it also. I don’t see it as a disorder myself, but it certainly leads one to do things which others percieve as crazy

What the hell? There is absolutely nothing in any interview or video of him that suggests he is bipolar. He seems like a totally normal, levelheaded and mellow dude with an unusual ability to not freak out when climbing high off the ground with no rope.

I’d be willing ot bet the bipolar comment was a joke.

Ha! Well, I NEVER do anything bad ass, nor ever will. If I did just one of his many bad ass ascents, I would rest content for the rest of my climbing career!
