Over the past several years the Southeastern Climbers Coalition has a great history of helping preserve and maintain access at areas throughout the southeast. One of the tools they’ve been using of late is to buy the land climbing areas reside on outright which is obviously an expensive proposition. With that in mind the SCC entered a contest to win a $250,000 grant from Pespsi. If they win the SCC plans to put the money towards buying 2 undisclosed areas in the southeast that are currently closed to climbing.
So, how can you help? It’s quite easy. You can vote for the SCC twice per day, once at this website and once by texting 104071 to 73774. Voting ends on November 30.
Even if you’re never going to visit the southeast this is an easy for you to help out fellow climbers! Here’s a little promotional video the SCC put together for this project if you need a little more motivation:
Narc do you have to sign up on the pepsi website to vote?

No, you can vote with your facebook account, if you have one.

Yeah in your case you would have to. A bit of a pain. Texting is definitely the easiest option.

The SCC has moved up to # 25 in 4 short days since the contest began. Keep voting every day. This could be the chance of a lifetime for climbers, and gaining access to 2 more crags. Keep the psyche alive!

The SCC is teetering from 23-26th. They need to reach more climbers to move higher! I sure hope they win this!

I don’t know…
Voting for some climbing areas when help for homeless people or support for doctors fighting cancer is also an option seems… wrong.
loading...
Well Ben, help for homeless people will always be needed–forever. After cancer research there is Alzheimer’s, etc. Medical needs will always be forever. There is nothing wrong with spending money for less serious causes too.
