The Reel Rock Tour is back with the 2nd installment of the Reel Rock Filmmaking Competition. The folks at the tour have picked their favorite 5 entries in both the Humor/Spoof category and the Action/Inspiration category. It’s up to you to decide who will win $500 (plus schwag) and have their video in the 2009 Reel Rock Tour.
As for the entries, they were a marked improvement over last year’s conetst which was to be expected. Despite this improvement, I had a hard time picking a favorite in either of the categories.

The humor videos were good, but left me wanting more in most cases.

The action videos were (again) short on action, but the videos “The Black Table Project” and “Do What You Like” were pretty cool.

I think the only one worth voting for is Pose Age and that’s a barely. I found all the other ones to be either stupid or corny. I swear, TV has robbed people of creativity.

The page only loads half way for me…. if i scroll down at all the page is totally unloaded. Anyone else having this issue or know how to resolve it?

Meh. Really didn’t like the Black Table Project. Thought Take was almost funny. Nothing in here I’d recommend to a friend.

So it’s not just me that was underwhelmed by the videos. Maybe it’s because they shortened the length of the videos to 2 minutes as opposed to 3 last year? There were some good concepts but nothing seemed complete to me. I thought that Spencer’s video from last year was funnier than anything this year.

i have to say that i really only liked Spencer’s film. all the serious films were too short to really get me interested and the “story” was rushed feeling. i really think the 2 minute format lends itself better to youtube videos of people eating cheeseburgers than climbing films. these just need to be longer.

Yeah, trying to tell a story in 2 minutes is a losing game. Better to scrap the story and just go for super slick/super cool moments.
I did appreciate that more of these seemed to have high production values than last year.

At least the quality of the videos is good.
Just a shameless plug Adventure Rock will be hosting the Reel Rock tour on Monday October 12th, 2009.

The “internationals” were like sitting thru the commercials some rock vids make you agonizingly view without being able to fast forward or skip. Sometimes I miss the good ol’ VHS – be kind, rewind…that is all.

oh I meant, “inspirational”…not “internationals”…stupid spell check.

As a shameless plug myself. Reel Rock may be coming to Madison, WI as well. Things are still in the works, but keep your eyes peeled, all you UW college students.

these were awful. without exception. i’d offer a useful critique but my brain just exploded all over my computer.

Funny you guys are all a bunch of harsh critics. When we got the entries we thought they were fantastic. Every single finalist in the comedy category is a solid idea executed well. It’s actually the ones that feature climbing action that are lacking a little bit — why don’t one of you try to submit something…tough guys

I must say that me either voted for Spencer’s movie.
I agree with everything that Ben has said. Two minute format does suits Youtube rather than this purpose.
