Tomorrow we will heading to Steele, AL to ring in the New Year at HP40. I’m nursing a tweaked finger on my right hand and Mrs. Narc is still recovering from her unfortunate ankle injury so it will be another low key HP40 trip. This will be our third consecutive trip there where one or both of us have been injured (or still recovering). Hopefully this will be the last trip where that is the case.
Given my lack of preparation I am trying to keep my goals to a manageable list. Here are a few problems I’m hoping to try:
- The Flow (V7) – I worked this problem on previous trips only to fall off the very last move at the top. I am better than that sort of thing nowadays so I am hoping to clean this one up quickly. Sub 70 degree temps should help quite a bit as well.
- Mortal Combat (V3) – I have always avoided this problem due to it’s reputation for being an ankle breaker, but recon done by a couple of friends seems to indicate it is not that bad.
- Slushpuppy SDS (V8) – Adds a couple of moves into the fun V4/5 stand start.
- It’s A Natural (V7) – I’m always a big fan of problems that have less than 3 moves on them.
- The Thief (V7) – I’m not sure how I feel about the sharp crimps on this problem so whether or not to try this will be a game time decision.
My tips are starting to sweat just writing this so I think I’ll leave it at that. There are (of course) many other fun problems that I have yet to do so goals are subject to change at any second.

BURNING JEALOUS RAGE!

Indeed. Look at that list of delicious V7’s!

plz work your diagonal angles on camera and artistic distant shots and be ready to comply with immediate posting demands

Have fun on Slushpuppy sit and the thief! Both are fun, but slushpuppy is better. Couldn’t believe how hard the thief felt when I tried to repeat it last year. 70 degrees will do that.

This will be one of the only times I have been there when the conditions have been remotely good. 3 of the 4 previous trips have had temps in the mid 70’s. Should be interesting to see how things feel.

Jealous Jealousy!
Have a good trip! And don’t push that finger too hard!
Mine started with a “sore tweakyness” and then exploded with the rage of 10,000 sock-hands.
TAKE LOTS OF PHOTOS!

Second (third) the photo request. Also please write down move by move beta for the problems you do so I can snag it from you at a later date. Better yet, bring a video camera and film from multiple angles. ‘Course it will be ages, perhaps never, that I get to go to HP.

I already have move-by-move beta memorized for most of the problems at HP40, even the ones I’ve never tried. You HAVE to get down there at least once. I will standby on the phone with any and all needed beta. This offer stands for the Sockhands as well.
I’ve been contemplating getting a video camera to help document my solo missions and other antics but I’m not convinced that the cost is worth it yet. I guess if someone recommended a half decent camera that is cheap I would pull the trigger.

We have one like this http://www.amazon.com/Sony-DCR-DVD610-Handycam-Camcorder-Optical/dp/B00123Q8YQ/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1230653510&sr=8-1 and it’s nice. We got it for the Boy so we could record every moment of his life to torment him at a later date. Records right onto DVD. Not sure yet if that’s good or bad. It’s 3-4 years old and still works mint. I think it was a lot more than this one but they all seem the same.

I feel like I would rather have something that recorded to a HDD or some kind of SD memory card but otherwise that is along the lines of what I was thinking. Too late to impulse buy one for HP40 so I will have some time to think it over before the spring season starts.

I just got a camcorder for Christmas for that exact reason to show my solo middle of the summer Dodge missions on the tube of you. I will need beta for how to execute such shanannigans though.
post script… take lots of pictures. and if you swing through chicago you can borrow my camera. lol

I have knowledge. You should post your videos on Vimeo instead of youtube. All the cool kids are doing it!

Word, if you want to borrow a shitty point and shoot Sony that has a video function (fairly poor quality, check it here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IltGWFh6fEo ) you can borrow mine. I have enough memory cards for a bunch of sends, but again, it’s pretty poor quality, and looks TERRIBLE on a 52 inch LCD TV.

I feel like HD is definitely the way to go for a new camera but the price is too high for amateur climbing film production.
