Ethan Pringle is back at Mt. Clark, home to that one route first done by that one guy:
Projecting a route like this requires all of your attention, and having to devote all of your attention to a route like this can get really tiring really fast. At some point, you just want to get it over with. Of course, afterward you feel a mix of relief and loss. Relief that you’re done and the epic is over, and loss that this magnificent line doesn’t require your presence anymore. But for me, I think I’ll have to take a nice long break from serious route projects for a little while after this. Like Randy Levitt said, “It’s like a limestone El Cap.” Obviously, that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but it does sort of convey the amount of work required to complete a project of this caliber.
Pringle is no stranger to Jumbo Love, having tried it even before its FA back in 2008. You can see some footage of his attempts here.
A Desert Life, 4.7 out of 5 based on 51 ratingsI don’t know about you, but I always try my best to climb close to an actual bathroom. In case you don’t, the Access Fund has a nice refresher on what to do when nature calls.
A Desert Life, 4.7 out of 5 based on 51 ratingsI guess it shouldn’t be surprising that with training like this that Canadian Yves Gravelle was able to climb his first V14 in Daniel Woods’ Echale in Clear Creek Canyon according to his 8a scorecard.

What an amazing life! Living to do what you love and not pretending you have to be anything else.

Let’s not glamorize a lifestyle that is only ideal when viewed from the outside. The day to day would obviously be much more depressing because to me there is so much more to life than climbing.

and yet he punched out all the windows in his camper…. i don’ think you live that life without some dark, dark nights. i’d have liked to know more about the shadow side of living eating from a can, broke and alone in a pickup truck. chase the dream, but don’t try to say it’s all a good one…..

There is more to old mates life than just climbing man. He likes hanging in the desert and waking to calm crisp air and making the little things in life an enjoyable little ritual. Like making his coffee and chilling out. He goes jogging. It’s hardly glamorising it.

It’s absolutely glamorizing it.

There was quite the interesting discussion over on MP regarding Alf, some lady posted saying he jumped into her camp and helped himself to her food, then it was pretty much 50/50 love/hate Alf for about 13 pages. I can’t find it now though, it have gotten deleted it got so nasty.
I also ran across a short note about “Alf’s Arete” in JTree saying Alf spotted the line then gave up the lead to another guy whom Alf short roped when he got to the top so Alf could get the send. He’s certainly a character!

He sounds like an asshole.

“Lining the Dream”? Bullshit. Gleaning a living off of others to pursue a purely selfish sport without giving anything back is about as far from noble as you can get.
