   I can’t think of another sport where there is someone on the PA while the athletes are doing their thing. In fact, even in sports where the audience takes an active roll, it is still frowned upon to have music playing (NBA, NFL, and MLB are all very strict about this).

   This leads me to my next point, which is that in all the climbing competition videos I’ve seen, the commentating has added NOTHING, and actually distracts and takes away from the event. It is one thing to have commentators on a broadcast of an event, but actually AT the event is really strange and distracting.

   To those running national comps – please, stop the announcing at the event. No one likes it.
