Via UKClimbing is this teaser video from a recent Mammut sponsored trip to England’s famous gritstone featuring the likes of Alex Johnson, David Lama, Anna Stöhr and Magnus Midtbø:
Check out this post to see the crazy flying camera setup they used to get the aerial shots.

Sounds like they annoyed more than a few locals

Project backfire…whoops. The video looks pretty cool and what a neat device that can be used in tight situations, but it’s amazing how good a well framed shot with out a ton of trickery can be.

Ya, they seem to be pretty “ticked” hehehe
All is see is heavy ticking and pre-placed gear.

Yeah, “excessive” tick marks and the subsequent failure to clean them up sounds like inconsiderate behavior, but hardly a big ethical problem. I think big tick marks are ugly, but I’m willing to let that stuff slide.
Far more… interesting (in a sad, hilarious way) is the discussion of sanding polished holds (linked in a post in the UKC thread Peter linked above).

michimammut (uploader) Hi John,
But there’s someone on the way to clean the lines.
thanks for your remark. Of course it is also in our sense to leave the crags in a natural state. Due to the good weather conditions the chalk has not been washed off yet
Cheers

For me it seems they used the http://www.draganfly.com to shoot the scenes.

Whats the point of leading on pre-placed trad gear? The only time I see a point to this is if its a stick-clip type first piece to prevent a bad fall, or if teaching new trad climbers on easy climbs. If a sponsored climber can’t place gear on lead at a given rating, they should be climbing something easier.

If it’s not being done ground up placing gear on lead isn’t it a bit contrived no matter what methods are used (pre-placed gear, headpointing, etc.)??

It is, I imagine it would take a lot of the fun out of it too.

Clipping pre-placed gear is by definition sport climbing. If you’re going to do it someone might as well throw some bolts in. Bet you they’d like that on Grit! LOL!
