Heart Of Stone Video

Climbing Videos
Heart Of Stone Video

I post a lot of videos of people crushing hard boulders or routes.  They’re really cool to watch and help get you psyched to get out there and climb your best.  However, it’s videos like the one below that we should all pay attention to.

Produced and directed by Andrew Kornylak, with footage from Josh Fowler, the recently unveiled short Heart Of Stone provides an important voice for all of the hard work being done on climber’s behalf in the southeast.  The 20 minute movie gives some insight into all that is being done by access groups like the Southeastern Climbers Coalition and the Carolina Climbers Coalition to ensure future access to the wealth of rock found in the southeast.

Does Dayton have the potential to be a large-ish area JE? Judging from the video, it seems like the theme in the south is going to be micro-areas that have a small concentration of good climbing.

It also seems like the hype is increasing for the Southeast to be a climbing lifestyle destination like Boulder or SLC. The only drawback would appear to be the the lack of good conditions for a few months of the year with no real escape nearby.

During the summer in the south, you just go to Little River Canyon and go water bouldering and swimming, go to nickajack lake and go DWS, or just put up with bad conditions….

Narc: Dayton has lots of potential and a lot that’s already developed, but it is kinda spread out. One parking area, with boulders as far as you want to walk.

Thanks for the info Matt. I figured that there were some fun summer climbing to do that we just don’t hear that much about. I would definitely take it!

The first comment looks good (not sure what happened when you saw it) so I will just remove the second one.

Dayton is better than Rocktown in my opinion and probably just as big if not bigger. Lots of potential. Chattanooga is very much becoming the “boulder’ of the southeast, although im sure the locals would cringe at that. the weather sucks in the South East otherwise i would probably live there instead. anyday of the year I can have good conditions and go try a V10 or harder. no where else in the country can make that claim. thus if you are psyched on climbing outside, all the time, every weekend, the frontrange is the best place to live in america. im sure jaeger would agree. no sockhands that overhang was wet when i was there, its a bit chossier than the rest of the stuff in Dayton although it does look great in the video. once again, making assumptions about problems you’ve seen in videos and havent seen in real life!

Hey guys thanks for watching. IMHO the overhang at dayton is as good as it looks. No choss at all except maybe some moss and leaves at the top but, it doesnt get topped all that much.

Anyway, I wanted to make sure to give props to Josh Fowler who shot the beautiful HD footage on this. http://www.boycottmedia.com
