Just A Little Patience Is All You Need

Thumbs Up Homies!!!Yes, I had surgery on Friday to correct one of several ailments that have been bothering me recently. Typing is a bit difficult so details will have to wait until later. Basically, tendon was harvested from my forearm to sew up my left thumb. This was to correct its extreme laxity that would have brought on arthritis by age 30 if left unchecked.

As I was being wheeled into the OR, I was greeted by the voice of Axel Rose crooning the Guns ‘n’ Roses Song Patience. The irony of this song being played at that very moment was not lost on me despite being half way in the bag. It perfectly encompassed all that I need to be thinking about during this continued stretch of non-climbing. Patience. Simple as that.

need a little patience…
just a little patience…
some more patience…
could use some patience…
gotta have some patience…
all it takes is patience
just a little patience is all you need

    Narc,

Take care of that thumb and FOLLOW YOUR PT. I had that surgery, so I know. It’s ridiculously hard to do your thumb training, but is 100% worth it in the end.

Also, one thing that brought my thumb extension back to 100%: writing with a pen. Best rehab ever.

    Good luck!

I was basically given street legal heroin although I can’t say it works as well as I imagine heroin working. It feels much better already which is a big plus.

Thanks to all the well wishers the past few days.

i’ll trade you the leftover meds from my ankle if you can get ahold of some lunesta /aka/ sleeping crack.

cannot live without it, but i haven’t had it for over a year, so therefore i’ve not been full alive.

night of the living dead on your ass, bitches!

Wow Narc, I had no idea you were having surgery. You didn’t opt for any bionic implants so increase your contact strength? Best wishes for a speedy recovery, maybe you should fake more pain so as to generate more sympathy from Mrs. Narc!

    Thanks everyone.

A certain unnamed climber at the gym/climbingnarc.com commenter has accused me of having this surgery done so that I have a visual excuse as to why I’m not climbing. For example, when people ask, “Hey, why aren’t you climbing!?!?” I now have a better answer. Instead of saying, “Oh, I’m not climbing because I am having mysterious and hard to understand hand pains” I can simply start clubbing them in the head with my cast. Seems fair enough to me…
