NPS Authorizes Fixed Anchors In Wilderness

Big news from the Access Fund:

After decades of work, the Access Fund received notice yesterday from National Park Service (NPS) that the agency has issued final national policy authorizing fixed anchors in wilderness. This policy—Director’s Order #41—affects many of the country’s most important climbing areas such as Yosemite, Grand Teton, Zion, Joshua Tree, and Canyonlands National Parks.

I think this is a step in the right direction, though some of the comments on the access fund page are negative. I would like to see a climbing narc poll on the subject to see what a large group of people think. I guess to me the positives far outweigh the negatives.

Hmm, I tried to upvote this comment but it somehow logged as a -1. Not sure why!

This is smokescreen of the government getting more control of when and where individual routes are put up. Permit system coming soon. Fees may apply.

i’m not so sure, yomama. From what I read the park system doesn’t seem to be taking an exploitive approach to climbing.
