Jimmy Webb Finishes South Africa Trip Strong

Before his victory at the Psicobloc Masters Series event, Jimmy Webb was busy wrapping up his visit to South Africa in much the same way he started.

Since we last checked in with him at the beginning of July he’s continued to rack up fast repeats of hard problems.  Highlights from his 8a scorecard include repeats of Madiba, King of Limbs, Modified Limited Rampage and Monkey Business, all problems that had previously been given V14 by at least one of the people who had climbed them previously but for which Webb suggested V13.

Not content with his ticklist from Rocklands, on the way out of the country Webb made a quick stop in Capetown’s Topside where he flashed Paul Robinson’s A Simple Knowing.  Robinson had initially suggested V15 but the grade has settled somewhere in the V13 or 14 range after easier beta was found.  Webb, of course, suggested V13 on his 8a scorecard.

In the past 12 months Webb has registered five V13 flashes, four of which had been considered V14 by other climbers.  Not too shabby.
