Interview With Josh & Brett Lowell

Cool interview on the American Alpine Club’s blog with Josh and Brett Lowell, the brothers behind Big Up Productions:

When they aren’t shooting at exotic crags all over the world, they’re at home with their families, bouldering at the Shawangunks, and editing in a two-story cottage surrounded by quiet woods, just across the lawn from Josh’s residence in Pound Ridge, New York.

It could just be that they came to prominence during the formative years of my climbing career, but there’s something about Big Up’s early work that sticks with me in a way that movies released in the past few years don’t.

Just seeing the trailer for Rampage brings back a lot of memories…and makes me want to squeeze juice out of the rock go climbing bad.

Agreed. It was almost better to have fewer, higher quality films to anticipate than the loads of B level footage with a dubstep soundtrack you get now. These guys know how to shoot and edit. There is a reason people spend time and money going to film school.

Free is pushing it, but it would be fun to be able to get it. Although the $20 they are charging for downloads of other old movies is a bit steep considering their age and length.

The only reason I am dissappointed is because they advertised it on the Big Up site for a long time as “coming soon as a free download.” And I love that movie.
