Time marches inexorably on and somehow it’s already Friday again.

This week’s slate of videos includes a double dip from Jimmy Webb’s excellent trip to CO, a profile of a legend and long-awaited footage of Sean McColl’s 2nd ascent of Dreamcatcher.

Based on reports of solid sends from a few friends down in the Red River Gorge last weekend it seems as though Spring is going to be here sooner than later.

Are you ready?  I wish I could say that I was, but my body seems to be falling apart again still.  However, 2011 is the year of no excuses so I’ll keep pushing ahead, and who knows, maybe I can actually get something done this year???

I too suffer from ability, strength, and athleticism in a body that has begun to break down much too soon. (25yrs as of today) Any sport I apply myself to in a dedicated fashion always results in injury.

Injuries can be super frustrating. The trick for me has been to mix it up, and climb around injuries. Chronic elbow problems and soft tissue injuries in both hands were really bad for me for a while. Both have taught me to climb better and smarter rather than harder, and I branched out more into aid and crack climbing.

If your passion in bouldering though you might have to reconsider. That is nothing but explosive movement from the get go. I’m amazed that some of these guys do it as long as they do.

I suffered from chronic shoulder soreness and one severe shoulder injury. The absolute greatest thing I have found is to be sure and do ample exercise of opposition muscles. After doing lots of push ups and other exercises targeting my chest, shoulders, biceps, and triceps I have had a drastic reduction in soreness. I feel way more healthy and it has also improved my climbing a ton, I have way more core/compression strength. Some people can get away without doing it but I think the vast majority of people need to do some sort of cross training / evening of muscle development and it really does not take that much effort for a significant difference.
