adidas Rockstars 2013 Live

Tune in here Saturday, September 14th at 1:15 PM EDT to catch Finals of the 2013 adidas Rockstars live from the Porsche Arena in Stuttgart, Germany.

A solid field including the likes of Sachi Amma, Nalle Hukkataival, Chris Webb-Parsons, Alex Puccio, Akiyo Noguchi and Shauna Coxsey will be competing in a unique format that starts with a two boulder final round, with the top three climbers from each gender at that point moving on to a third problem.  The top two climbers after the third problem will compete in one last "super final" round where they climb simultaneously on identical problems with the first climber to reach the top getting the victory.

Update - When I wrote this post yesterday I didn't realize there was still a semi-final round to be had so the list of people above is not entirely accurate. In fact, none of the men I mentioned made it to finals. Oops! Here are the finalists:

Worst song the world has ever known.

It's like they thought to themselves 'I want, like, Nickelback, only worse.'

Turns out there is such a thing.

  3. Narc

I guess it pays to only view this from a computer with no speakers #winning

  4. Narc

Oops. I found a computer with sound...

  5. Berg

why are they doing this. what did climbing ever do to them. stop it.

    1. Berg

yup time to yell at the fb page

  6. Narc

Lots of buffering and bad music

  7. Sean

I think Adidas just tricked us into watching a terrible concert by telling us there will be climbing. Where is the climbing?!?! Stop this terrible music!! Ahhh!

  8. Doug Lipinski

This is unbearable. Feel like sending a tweet when the climbing starts?

    1. Narc

Sure, you tweet at me when it starts

      1. Doug Lipinski

Well done. Turnabout is fair play. But seriously, no one should have to listen to this.

I can't get the stream to work for more than a minute at at time right now before it buffers endlessly

          1. Doug Lipinski

Me either, and thank god for that.

What's going on with the stream? Keeps on skipping 30 seconds and so forward all the time? This is from London, UK

    1. Narc

      Same here in the US

Ridiculous. I thought Adidas was quite the large company with appropriate resources. Next time they ought to contract Lt11 over to do as good a job as they have done with the US comps the past year. This is just stupid.

    Worst stream ever.

Erm.. you are quite lucky you are not seeing this..

  13. Sean

We need LT11 to do this broadcast! This sucks Adidas, get out of climbing!!

    1. Narc

Doesn't matter who you are if you don't have the proper bandwidth

This whole comp has been kind of a disaster. Terrible streaming. Terrible music. Too many flashes of M1. No tops or bonus on M2. Too many men with an exact tie after qualifier. And after final problem. Rush to set M super-final that would be decided based on awkward start. Advancing to M final decided by Jernej being taller than Sean and able to reach bonus with no hope of moving from that position. W final too hard and neither woman can top. Women called off with no winner yet and men sent out. At this point they're just making up procedures for how to decide the winner.

Glad I went to get an oil change instead

This competition made me appreciate the IFSC Boulder World Cup organization. Not that I did not like the BWC before, but this event made it glaringly clear how well organized everything is.
