Video Friday - 3/04/2011

The first 2 months of 2011 disappeared in the blink of an eye, and one of the biggest weeks of the year for the more youthful amongst you is upcoming.  I speak, of course, of spring break.  Since I've been out of school and working for the man for some time there is no official spring break on my calendar, however I've done a decent job of getting out and doing some climbing during the "spring break" time frame over the years which is never a bad thing.

This year my hope for my "spring break" is to get down to the Red River Gorge for a few days, but my preparation has been severely limited by the fact that I likely tore a ligament in my knee heel hooking while doing needless my-one-trip-of-the-year-to-the-southeast-is-ending-so-I-better-hurry-up-and-climb-until-my-fingers-are-bleeding laps during my recent trip to LRC.

I probably won't be ready, but will you be ready for the spring climbing season?

Take the poll and let me know in the comments where your spring break plans are taking you.

To help get you motivated for whatever climbing you (hopefully) have upcoming, here are a few of the more popular videos from the last week:

Narc, I feel for you man. You're one fragile dude. Don't let it stop you from climbing, although I suspect that's not a worry.

I think I'm ready for the spring season, but my wife is getting ready to have a baby, so all of my 'big sends' will be on our home wall in the garage.

      Congrats!

narc your injury proneness is unrivaled. Seriously, you have worse luck than R.V. I think.

I may be easily wounded, but each time I get hurt my resolve to be better and work harder at climbing only increases...which makes me hurt myself...

You need to beast some squat/deadlift(if squats hurt) when your knees are close to 100%. You add 100lbs to your max squat/deadlift(easy if you've never trained legs much) and your tendon/ligament strength in your knees will go up greatly.

What am I supposed to do with all that dead weight in my legs?? :)

        Bathang.

Narc, any idea what days you'll be in the Red? I'm going to be there, along with a bunch of other people from Hoofers, the week after next.

Sounds about right. Frankly not too terribly excited to be anywhere near Miguel's during college spring break. I must be getting old.

Why would you write "Brett Perkins Trad Climbing Proper Soul (5.14a)" instead of "Brett Perkins Climbing Proper Soul (14a)?"

I don't know the route or details but my guess is it's bolted so a trad ascent needs to be denoted to give proper credit to a fine ascent. Purely a guess but it seems reasonable.

Because it's not normal for it to be done on gear??

    3. Narc

Although saying he did it on gear would have probably been more accurate...

I guess I'm a bit of a climbing masochist... I'm stronger than ever but I still don't quite feel ready for the spring, so I'm hitting my training hard!
