Today marks the kick off of the Outdoor Retailer trade show in Salt City, UT. OR is a bi-annual pilgrimage for many in the outdoor industry that provides companies, athletes and the general public a chance to mingle and make connections.
Around the time the tradeshow comes up on the calendar each year I’ve noticed a pattern in the correspondences I receive from people in relation to this site. Invariably people say something like “See you at OR!” or “Have a good time at OR” or “Your site is super awesome!”. Well, maybe not that last one but you get the point. To save me from responding to any more emails, let me just state something for the record:
I will not be attending the Outdoor Retailer trade show.
I mean, I would like to check one out at some point. It’s just that if I’m going to fly half way across the country I’d usually like it to be for some actual climbing. One of these years perhaps…
I will, however, be at the 11th installment of Buick Quick On The Draw this weekend. QOTD is our local gym’s annual comp that I’ve participated in for the past 10 years now. Somehow I’ve only managed to actually compete in 2 or 3 of the comps while the other years I’ve helped with routesetting, belaying or the capturing of media. I haven’t decided what I’m going to do during the comp as of yet, but I look forward to seeing many of you Wisconsin folk there!
