I’m a big fan of the interviews done on Boulder’s ClimbTalk Radio and thanks to the hard work of Dave McAllister we can all peruse transcripts of the shows. The latest interview to be transcribed with B3Bouldering.com‘s Jamie Emerson touches on a wide variety of topics including Jamie’s work on a guidebook for RMNP and Mt. Evans, the evolution of his blog and his status as the unofficial Sheriff of the climbing community:

You know, if I question, “Did someone start there or do this,” they take it really personally. Even though I think it’s important that we discuss these issues and I know a lot of times it’s my friends. In fact, I called Dave Graham out for starting in an inappropriate place and he was not happy with me, at all. We had to have a little talk about it. He was like, “It’s really ridiculous that you’re calling me out.” I’m like, “Hey, I’m an equal opportunity Sheriff. I’ll write tickets for everyone.” No one’s above being questioned, including myself. Ironically, I feel like I get questioned more than anyone.

On Friday, September 2 reigning World Cup Bouldering champs Kilian Fischhuber and Anna Stöhr will be live in studio for Boulder, Colorado’s ClimbTalk radio show. Other guests scheduled to appear include Jonathan Siegrist and Chuck Fryberger who will be there to talk about his latest movie, The Scene. The show airs at 10:00 PM MST and can be heard on Radio 1190 in the Boulder area or streamed from the Radio 1190 website.

Kehl, Smith & Takeda Talk Zanskar Odyssey

Jason Kehl, Abbey Smith and Pete Takeda are back from their trip to India where they sought to explore the bouldering in the Zanskar region of the Indian Himalayas. Full updates from the trip, including a five-part video series and an article in Men’s Journal, are forthcoming late this year and early next year*, but the team did sit down with the ClimbTalk Radio crew at Boulder’s Radio 1190 to share some stories from their journey. ClimbTalk Radio John Bachar Interview

Legendary free soloist John Bachar recently made a stop in Boulder, CO for a slideshow. While in town, he also sat down for a lengthy interview with the guys from ClimbTalk Radio.

The 30 minute interview covers a wide range of topics with, of course, Bachar’s free soloing being the main one. He talks about how he began free soloing as well as his well known accident where he decked while soloing in Eldorado Canyon. His message to the kids out there: DON’T FREE SOLO.

2nd Edition Of ClimbTalk Radio

ClimbTalk Radio Show

Last week Monday, a climbing talk radio show premiered on KGNU in Boulder, CO.

Wait. What? Talk radio? Climbing??? Yes, you read that right.

The hour long show featured FRB’s Mike Brooks and another host interacting with guests Malcolm Smith, Heid Wirtz and Christian Griffith in studio. Calling in on the hotline were climbing legends Pat Ament and John Sherman.

Taking into account that this was their first time putting on a radio show, the show itself was pretty good. Some highlights were Christian’s thoughts on “reinforcing” holds at Flagstaff Mountain and John Sherman’s recounting of how land managers view climbers on the same level as nuclear testers (or something like that).

There is plenty of room for improvement in future shows, but it is unclear whether or not there will actually be any shows in the future.

If you want to check it out for yourself, you can download an MP3 version of the roughly 1 hour long show by clicking here. You have to fast forward about 5 minutes to get to the start of the show so don’t be confused if you only hear BBC news updates for a few minutes.
