One interesting thing I can post about right now that you may be interested in is the release of Exposure Volume II on digital download.  This film follows the likes of Jimmy Webb, Daniel Woods, Alex Puccio, Alex Megos and Dmitry Sharafutdinov as they push their limits on some of the hardest routes and boulder problems in the world.

I’ll get that for the segment on Dmitry alone. Something about that guy is so inspirational.

I liked that one a lot. Much different than your average climbing segment.

He just seems like such a dark horse. Like this guy, deep in Russia, where he is the only really good climber, that just trains so hardcore. It seems like something out of a superhero movie or some shit.

And when I say he is the only good climber I mean in Yekaterinburg of course.

I am from Yekateringburg originally, and was part of a climbing team there. Rock climbing is a much bigger sport in russia than it is in america, actually. It was a big shock to me how unorganized, and frankly, weak, american climbers were compared to their russian counterparts. In russia, to be a climber is to be part of a team, to train regularly, and to attain nationally sanctioned certifications. In america, you can call yourself a climber if you smoke weed under a boulder and own a pair of evolvs. To that end, i would not say Dmitry is “breaking barriers” or “overcoming adversity” by being a climber, he is actually participating in a nationally sancitoned and recognized activity.

Oh fun! Lets play a game, I’ll give you a “weak” American climbers name and you give me his or her stronger Russian counterpart. Ready? Jimmy Webb for the males and Alex Puccio for the females.

This is so true and I’ve somehow gotten the understanding that in America as long as you keep posting pictures of your amazing v3 project and tag some climbing companies to your pictures you can call your self a professional climber (and please do not be mistaken America has really good climbers too and im not trying to make the impession that ide deserve sponsors or that ime the best) this is how I see climbing being in the future unfotunately.

I am a weak comprehender for sure, but I think I get it, he’s saying that pro climbers in Russia are more structured in their training processes (or whatever) and while that may or may not be true is the word weak really the right word to use when talking about Dmitry’s American counterparts?

There it is. He is saying that if you were to randomly choose an american who says they are a climber and a Russian who says they are a climber, chances are the Russian will be stronger, train harder, take climbing more seriously, etc. Therefore, it shouldn’t be a shock that they have produced a top-notch pro. It is definitely true for most european countries. Probably true for Russia as well.

No one doubts that the best american climbers are purty darn good.

Is there a reason you’ve disable full screen on YouTube embeds? My initial impression is that this omission is lame, but I’m open to hearing a reason.

That’s not something I’ve done on purpose, and in fact I hadn’t actually noticed that was the case. I’ll see if there is something I can do on my end to fix this, but I’m not sure there is. The embeds are a built-in piece of WordPress at this point so whatever is happening just the default way they are embedded.

Actually, if I visit this page in Firefox I see the full screen toggle. I think this might be a Youtube thing between their html5 embeds and flash embeds. Not much I can do about this.

With Chrome (on OSX) there is no fullscreen button for me. In Safari it appears after I hit play, and in Firefox it is there immediately. It’s a shame because I use Chrome so I always have to open and play the video on YouTube directly.

So did Daniel go back and repeat Hypnotized Minds? Did they just film him doing the individual moves? I’m pretty confident the footage of him climbing on it in Exposure 2 isn’t the send footage…
