11-year-old Mirko Caballero blogs about the past two months which have taken him from the Red River Gorge to Smith Rock to Pinnacles National Monument, a series of trips that saw him redpoint a couple of 5.14s, flash some 5.13s and lay the groundwork for what promises to be a very promising future. I think we’re going to be hearing a lot more about this kid in the coming years…

God damn that kid is badass! On a pretty diverse set of climbs too.
He also happens to write better blog posts than most adult climbers.

Confusing because in the FiveTen blog, it says his birthday is in 1997, which would make him 15 years old. But his website says 11 year old. http://fiveten.com/community/MirkoCaballero/profile

His Five Ten athlete page says his birthday is in 2001…

He climbs at my gym. There’s no way he’s 15. I don’t know him but I’ve seen him around enough to say he’s a really nice kid, has fun climbing, and his parents are supportive (not overbearing).

I met this young man in June, when he said he was having a “bad” trip to Smith. It was refreshing to see someone that young not intimidated by the historical significance of the routes there (what are you gonna try tomorrow Mirko? I dunno, Scarface or To Bolt, I haven’t decided yet….). Really nice guy with a good head on his shoulders.
