Just a quick reminder that First Ascent: The Series is airing for the first time in the U.S. tonight on the Travel Channel. To help promote the show Nick Rosen and Peter Mortimer of Sender Films appeared on last night’s Last Call With Carson Daly to talk about the First Ascent series and share the story behind a couple of the episodes. If you didn’t catch it on NBC you can watch it right here:

El Cap Report Returns For Spring 2012

News & Notes
What Did You Do This Weekend?
Tommy Caldwell and Alex Honnold spent Saturday romping up big walls in Yosemite. The pair free climbed Freerider on El Cap, the South Face of Mt. Watkins and the Regular Northwest Face on Half Dome in just over 21 hours. So…how was your weekend??
Ethan Pringle On Jumbo Love
Ethan Pringle is back at Mt. Clark, home to that one route first done by that one guy:
Projecting a route like this requires all of your attention, and having to devote all of your attention to a route like this can get really tiring really fast. At some point, you just want to get it over with. Of course, afterward you feel a mix of relief and loss. Relief that you’re done and the epic is over, and loss that this magnificent line doesn’t require your presence anymore. But for me, I think I’ll have to take a nice long break from serious route projects for a little while after this. Like Randy Levitt said, “It’s like a limestone El Cap.” Obviously, that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but it does sort of convey the amount of work required to complete a project of this caliber.
Pringle is no stranger to Jumbo Love, having tried it even before its FA back in 2008. You can see some footage of those attempts here.
When In Doubt Pack It Out
I don’t know about you, but I always try my best to climb close to an actual bathroom. In case you don’t, the Access Fund has a nice refresher on what to do when nature calls.

Americans:) lolololol

What is so funny about Americans in this context?

Could be how long it took for First Ascent to make its way onto TV here??
loading...
Or it could be that Carson Daly was ever famous. Take your pick.

or that something as spiritually rewarding as free-soloing has to be marketed in an obsolete video format and make an appearance on a washed-up MTV DJ’s late night TV show before its considered socially relevant by people who walk around the mountains with mattresses strapped to their backs

@polaroppsite:ha ha ha Well said!
Happened to see them last night, had no idea that it was the first time it was on since all this has been available on the net forever. A few buddies were really impressed by dean’s accomplishments. It was anti-climactic for them to have Sharam’s spot on after dean’s. I tried to explain how impressive chris climb was at clark mountain, but I guess for a non climber it is hard to top dead “free basing”

u are ignorant if you think americans are the only ones who fall under the category of people polar opposite describes. it is a very funny comment, but dont be THAT guy who says, “everything in europe is so much better” because then you would be no better. u sound like a pretentious hipster girl majoring in anthropology who has really never even been anywhere else in the world.
