Those guys are freaking awsome, speed is everything in the mountains and on walls…water and weather doesn’t last forever so why not get those speed skills down pat like these two…

I mostly found the videos interesting because I could never understand how people were able to move so quickly, and the videos demonstrate the techniques albeit from extreme distance and with bad music in the background.

I agree that while speed ascents are an interesting challenge, the constant battle to shave minutes off here and there seems rather pointless. I think because this was a speed ascent of The Nose makes it somewhat more newsworthy than most speed ascents but don’t be fooled into thinking I spend much time thinking about it. To the Huber’s credit they have also spent many years establishing new lines on El Cap and hopefully now that they are done with the speed record they will get back to that sort of work.

speed ascents are the big wall equivalent to sneaker pimping someone’s project… impressive, yet not nearly as cool as seeing someone send a new hard project or send something at their own limit.
maybe akin to a top triathelete?
not to downplay the feat that i could not do in two weeks, let alone sprinting it, but with all the rock in the valley and mentions of new possibilities, these kind of speed ascents seem about as newsworthy as someone putting up a ‘new’ mega traverse variation of doom in morrison’s black hole.
this is also not to rag on your news reporting skillz, narcface, but these traddie folks seem to keep recycling the old in a way that mr. beal has complained about in other aspects of the climbing world.
when i see ‘huber brothers’ i usually am reminded of magazine spreads depicting some big wall free ascent. i dig that. that puts the wow right into my face.
a new speed record… in the words of some big wall guy a handful of years back on the same subject “it’s the big so what?“
